Janet & Keith - self portrait

Janet Fryer is a British-born artist, mother, and devoted wife. Entirely self-taught, she brings to her work a raw desire to create, unshaped by formal training yet deeply shaped by life. Janet first explored creative expression through hairstyling at Vidal Sassoon where she honed her craft as a sculptor of hair. She later designed and tailored her own clothes—an early foray into working with form and texture, using fabric as her medium.

After moving to California with her husband and three children 30 years ago, Janet lived in Los Angeles, Laguna Beach, and Palm Springs, eventually settling in San Juan Capistrano. While living in Laguna Beach and later Palm Springs, she began painting—encouraged by a dear friend and local artist—developing her own visual language through portraiture, abstract work, and mixed media. She later expanded into sculpture, working with clay and driftwood.

Janet’s work reflects a lifelong curiosity and tactile relationship with all mediums and materials. She held an exclusive show at Seven Degrees Laguna Beach in 2010, and her work has since sold to private collectors in Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Australia and the UK, under the title Onesart.

I make art to please myself, those I love, and with some luck, those I have yet to meet.
